JET SETTER BLACK FALON
Blackie is a very calm, affectionate and loving standard poodle.  He has grown to  68 lbs and stands approx. 21-23" at the withers.  He has a nice "German" stocky build.   His coat is very thick and very  curly.  Blackie has a very nice Champion  pedigree and shares distant  ancestors with  Cocoa, DarbyScisco,  Juel, Mystee & Tory, Rosebud, Rosie and Sugar.....our other standard poodles.    Standard poodles have a different temperament than that of your toys and miniatures.  The Standard Poodle  is a calmer dog and not as neurotic or yappy as toy or Miniature Poodles can be.   Poodles in general can be difficult dogs...somewhat aggressive and not good with children if not bred properly.  Not originally being a Poodle fan,  it was extremely important to us that all of our Poodles have superb, laid back Temperaments like that of our Golden Retrievers and we've been very fortunate to own some of the best tempered Poodles!  All of our Standard Poodles are very affectionate and sweet!  Because the color black in a Goldendoodle is not very popular,  we rarely use Blackie for sire even though he produces the BEST LOOKING Goldendoodles!

Black Poodles can look simply amazing
Our  original  veterinarian,  Dr. James (Who passed away in April 2006)  had given us the  method below that  he used  to  determine the "adult" size of a puppy.  He provided this method to us back in 1999.  So far, it has held as a good formula for not only our purebred pups....but for our hybrids as well:

AT THE AGE OF 2 MONTHS: MULTIPLY THE WEIGHT BY 4
AT THE AGE OF 3 MONTHS: MULTIPLY THE WEIGHT  BY 3
AT THE AGE OF 4 MONTHS: MULTIPLY THE WEIGHT  BY 2

Puppies go through a rapid growth spurt from 2 months to 4 months....but you should see some slowing down by the age of six months.  Smaller  to mid-size breeds are usually considered fully grown by the age of one year....while your larger breeds such as the German Shepherd, Mastiff  & Rottweiler can continue to grow until the age of 2 yrs.  Small boned dogs generally stop growing by the age of one year.
PORTUGUESE WATER DOG? STANDARD POODLE? GOLDENDOODLE?   We'll keep you guessing!
Portugese Water Dog
The Portuguese water dog is commonly mistaken for the Standard poodle.....a black Goldendoodle is commonly mistaken for the Portuguese water dog!  The PWD stands at  23" in height and is brown or black.  They have a powerful body and carry their tail upwards in a curl.  The funny thing is, so does the Goldendoodle!  The Portuguese Water dog does not have a refined head like that of the Standard Poodle.....but, then, neither does the Goldendoodle!  The PWD does NOT sport a docked tail......neither do most Goldendoodles.  They are excellent swimmers.....excellent retrievers.....but then....so is the Goldendoodle!  The difference seems to be in temperament....The PWD is stubborn...difficult to train and requires a firm owner/trainer.  They do, however, have a cheerful attitude but are demanding in exercise.  If you love the look of the PWD, you will fall head over heels in love with a black Goldendoodle.......our doodles have such loving temperaments, you'll wonder why you never owned this hybrid in the first place!
We encourage past customers to submit photos of the Goldendoodles that they have purchased from us so that we can watch them as they grow!
Meet HART & DOODLEBUG.    Both Hart & Doodle Bug live near Atlanta,  Georgia.   Hart & doodle are from the same litter as shown up above.  These two lovely babies are pups sired by our wonderful "Blackie".   Their litter pics are up above on this page.  CLICK HERE to read Diane's comments about these two lovely babies. Special thanks to Diane for submitting these lovely photos!
Meet Rusty and his owner Connie!  Rusty was one of our Apricot doodles born to the litter above and is the brother to "Hart" and "Doodlebug".   Connie says Rusty is just a complete joy to own and to have as her best canine friend!  CLICK HERE to read Connie's comments.

Many Goldendoodle fans  want to know what the difference is between  Cream, red &  apricot  on a Goldendoodle.  The pic to the upper left with pink background are  doodles sired by Darby and they are cream.  The doodles in the upper right picture with red background are cream, apricot and red.  There is a cream pup to the left with an apricot pup directly in front of the cream and there is a red directly in back of the cream with its head next to the cream.  This should help clear up some confusion of the colors.  Blackie sires apricot, black, silver, silver phantom, chocolate & red doodles.  We have also had black and white doodles,  created  by Blackie.  Because Black is not a popular color in the Goldendoodle dog...for whatever reason...... we do not use Blackie for sire as often as our lighter colored Poodles, even though Blackie creates some of the most  fantastic looking doodles!
All of our doodles are given baths at an early age so that we can accustom them to the grooming process.  They are so small in the beginning that they fit right in  my kitchen sink!  While most pups do not mind the bath itself....many dislike the blow-dryer!  I now have a building for grooming, so my kitchen sink has since been  retired for puppy useage.
Below are some of the Goldendoodles sired by Blackie.   Blackie is only used for sire when we have enough customers on a list who want darker colored doodles such as chocolate, silver frost, silver phantom, black and tan, solid black or black with some white.    All silver, silver frost  and silver phantom  doodles  are born jet black and  it is extremely difficult to know with 100% certainty that the black doodles will stay black.  Many begin to lighten in color at a later puppy stage....some do not fully lighten until they are 6-7 months  of age.
While many people only desire to own a light colored Goldendoodle...maybe because of the name "golden-doodle"....many people do not realize that BLACK  is the most sought after color in a Standard Poodle.

In the two above pictures,  the majority of our black Goldendoodles (we nickname them "Nictendoodles") are VERY thick coated because BLACKIE has the thickest coat of all of our Standard Poodles.  His very tight curly coat produces beautiful doodles of whom the majority have a very thick, loose wavey long coat.  Their muzzle is wider than that of either the poodle and the Golden Retriever....mid-length....with very long, heavy high-set ears.  We get quite a few black doodles with golden hues through-out the coat when Blackie is used as a sire.   Many people do not realize that even our darkest colored doodles have a "two-toned" affect.....even our black doodles have golden hues through-out the coat which makes their coloring very unique.   We are not even sure if any other doodle breeder has similar coloring like our doodles.  Our silver and Silver Phantom doodles are completely stunning! Especially if they have green or blue eyes! Here in 2007, we now have blue eyed Goldendoodles or doodles with multi-colored eyes such as one blue eye/one brown eye or one blue eye/one green eye! Their awesome looking!

Sometimes our doodles can be long-legged like our Standard Poodles.    The Poodle is very fortunate to be a breed with great ancient and diverse origins.   They are one of the hardiest dogs alive today!  Very versatile and intelligent,   the Poodle is the longest lived dog in canine  history.  Fewer genetic defects have been found in the Standard Poodle despite its long history of great inbreeding and linebreeding.  We  see very few genetic problems in our Goldendoodles and this is because they have such a terrific lineage  and  because of their origins and the fact that the top kennels who produced their ancestry took extreme care to breed only the best of the best!   Of course, even the best breeder will see some problems from time to time.........t They won't admit it but here is just no way a breeder can be perfect, even though many  claim they are!

In England,  Julia Taylor (Greekmyth) is responsible for many of the Chocolate (brown) Standard Poodles of today.   We do, on occasion, produce brown (Chocolate) Goldendoodles sired by Cocoa.  as well as chocolate phantom.    Jeune Fille d'Orleyns was bred to one of Wycliffe's males, Fabien.  Both dogs are behind many of the white Standard Poodles available today.   Modern American Standard Poodles really began in the 1930s when Blakeen and Carillon Kennels imported black Standard Poodles of both English and Swiss-German origin.   Carillon Kennel is behind  many of the Black Standard Poodles that are available to this day and Blakeen Kennel bred all colors, a tradition that continued by Bel Tor and Puttencove.....but of course,  there are so many Poodle breeders available now, that diverse colors are more acceptable and desired.

Our Goldendoodles have a very impressive ancestral lineage and many of the ancestors' names are listed at the beginning of this page.  Not only do they share extensive distant Champion lineage....their ancestors actually have a very long story to tell!    CLICK HERE to start your journey into the history of our Goldendoodles'  lineage.   You'll find all of the information very impressive.  Their ancestors' pedigree shows lines of descent from Four major  importers of Standard Poodles during the 1930s and go back to Sweden, Germany, France, Canada and the UK.  All of our Goldendoodles have a shared legacy of hundreds of Champions through-out their lineage.    There were 667 Champions born in the 1950s alone!    All attributed to Jean Lyle of Wycliffe Kennel;  She is now deceased,  but her legacy continues on to this day and she doesn't know it,  but much of HER legacy continues on through our Goldendoodles!

Because her poodles were so popular and everyone wanted to breed to them,  the percentage of inbreeding is very high way back into the lineage.  It took us 2 years to fully research the lineage of our Standard Poodles,  but you'd have to CLICK HERE to read about inbreeding and line-breeding.  We disagree with inbreeding or back-breeding to create Goldendoodles.    The best generation is the FIRST GENERATION.   But many show breeders use extensive backbreeding, linebreeding and inbreeding to create their show dogs and some agree with it while others do not.  We do know that having a smal gene pool causes what is considered to be a "genetic bottle neck".  When there is a lack of genetic pool with any dog  and a dog has been extensively line-bred with no outside genes,   the dogs do tend to have a shorter life-span,  have fewer progeny and can have other genetic flaws or ailments.     Line-breeding, back-breeding or inbreeding is not recommended for the Goldendoodle because it is then possible to begin to pull out the  not so positive traits and it increases the Goldendoodle offspring's' risk for having defective genes or flaws later down the road.
