I have blue eyes,  therefore I am

Goldendoodles from Goldendoodle World are well bred "country" dogs.  They are jovial, outgoing, personable and quite intelligent...not to mention...very healthy.

Those who write about the Goldendoodle dog on blogger or in their essays, can be quite personal even sometimes quite philosophical.  The Goldendoodle dog is bracing, whimsical, thought provoking and believe it or not,  our own Goldendoodles are...how do we say it...quite European.  Their lineage dates back to the early 1930s and my 2 year research led me all over Sweden, France and Germany.

There is so much erroneous information all over the internet about this terrific hybrid.  This is what led me, many years ago, to begin writing about them.  To err is to be human,  to outright write blatent  erroneous information about the Goldendoodle dog, is to be irresponsible.

Some dogs are dangerous.  Some dogs are destructive.  The worst our Goldendoodles have ever done is press their cold wet nose against my hand, waiting yet for another generous round of hugs and belly rubs.  Like Napoleon,  we humans may believe we are superior beings,  but our dogs keep us humble.  Humans make the world complicated.  Goldendoodles are not complicated.  The naysayers will go on to call them "designer mutts".   Well,  unless the doodle's owner has filled their lives with bling,  the Goldendoodle dog is quite happy to roll around in the hay or jump in the first mud puddle like an unpretentious child.  Have dirt,  will have fun..that's the Goldendoodle's motto.  There is nothing "designer" about them.   Some will claim the Goldendoodle dog is "odor free".   "HA!", says the Goldendoodle.  The Goldendoodle lives in "The world of odors" and their keen sense of smell will surely lead them to it.   Many people talk to their Goldendoodle as if they are human.  They are taken aback when he or she returns to their animality.  The light eyed Goldendoodle will cause you to forget they are a dog.

Our blue eyed Goldendoodles are quite stunning in appearance.  Behind their sky blue eyes,  they hold a sense of mystery.  Our Goldendoodles will never cease to amaze me and even I am impressed by my own dogs.   We saw our first blue eyed Goldendoodle sometime in 2005.   She was a keeper.  Star Burst.  Her brother, Amber, was born with green eyes.   We, ourselves, own a couple of green eyed Golden Retrievers,  so it was no surprise that we got a blue eyed Goldendoodle in the mix.  I do want to emphasize that even in all these years (we started our Goldendoodle breeding program in 1999),  we continue to only see a handful of doodles born with blue eyes.  It appears that the brown eyed gene is quite dominant.   After researching genetic information quite heavily,   I eventually paired two blue eyed Goldendoodles together and was surprised to see that even when both parents had blue eyes,  not even this would guarantee us a litter full of blue eyed puppies.  We still saw only one or two puppies have a pair of blue eyes; some having one blue eye and one brown eye;  some having one blue eye and one green eye;  green eyes; and the majority having brown eyes.

It should come as no surprise that a Goldendoodle has blue eyes.  The dog itself can be traced back to wolves who carry the blue eyed gene.   Like any dog that is commonly known for their brown eyes,   true it is strange to some to see a dog with light eye color or even multi colored eyes.  But I personally love it when we see our Goldendoodles born with green, blue or multi colored eyes.

It use to be that I could tell when our Goldendoodles were going to have green eyes.  Their pink nose would eventually turn liver or chocolate, including the trim around their eyes and their paw pads.  What we found with the blue eyed Goldendoodle is that they can have either a chocolate (liver) colored nose as well as a solid black nose.  We further discovered that a Goldendoodle born with a pair of blue eyes can turn out to have one blue eye and one green eye or brown eye.  Their eyes do not always stay blue.

Chocolate Goldendoodles are always born with green eyes.
Here is a fun fact, tho.   Every chocolate Goldendoodle is born with green eyes.   That is a given.   This comes from the chocolate Poodle.  Their green eyes, however,  do change to an amber color as an adult.

Goldendoodles with light colored eyes are beautiful and fascinating.  Goldendoodles come in every imaginable color and there are absolutely no "rare" markings.  The Poodle itself has such a wide variety of colors down through their pedigree that helps keep the Goldendoodle dog very interesting.  To date,  we are the only breeder with blue eyed Goldendoodles.   Some have what is called an "Aussie" doodle  but those are Australian Shepherds mixed with a Poodle.

I have never owned an Australian Shepherd so I could not even tell you about their temperament or what to expect.  I do know that sometime in 2010,  I want to pair my German Shorthaired Pointer with one of my curly coat, blue eyed Goldendoodles.   Star Dust.   He sires some of the most beautiful Goldendoodles.  Star Dust has blue eyes and is a curly coat Goldendoodle.  He basically looks like a Poodle with blue eyes.  Merry-Belle has amber colored eyes.  She is gorgeous!  She is intelligent.  She is a most fascinating dog.  Probably one of the brightest bulbs out of her litter.   Paired together with Star Dust,  I have no doubt that we would have an entire litter of highly intelligent, beautiful light eyed puppies.   I discuss the "Deutsche Kurzhaar Doodle" on another page and it can be found by clicking here.

Since German Shorthaired Pointers have short hairs that stay very close to the body,  it is my hope that these short hairs are soft enough to allow the Poodle DNA within Star Dust (a curly coat Goldendoodle)  to allow the puppies to come out shaggy.  Merry-Belle's ancestors all have amber colored eyes, so again,  it is my hope that all of the puppies will come out with either green or blue eyes.  Maybe even a combination of both.

Naysayers can bawk all they want when it comes to creating new mixtures in the dog world.   Our world is full of humans who come from various mixtures so why not dogs ?  As a responsible breeder,  I ensure the dogs that we create have the best lineage possible.

I bark.....therefore I am.
