Many people are under the impression that Goldendoodle hybrids can't possibly look a lot alike just because they are a hybrid dog. We are here to burst that bubble and notion.
The fact of the matter is, the Goldendoodle dog has three basic coat types and regardless of where the Goldendoodle comes from, all three coat types share basic similarities within the type itself. Meaning, each coat type has common factors. This page is going to explain what common characteristics all curly coat Goldendoodles share and we have placed some lovely photos on here to prove it.
Every one of our Goldendoodles, regardless of coat type, are born with a Golden Retriever appearance even when their mother is a purebred Poodle. All have a beautiful round head and Golden Retriever appearance. However, the curly coat Goldendoodle, within hours of their birth, has many many ripples throughout their coat . This is how we know, after so many years of personal experience, whether or not our newborn doodles will have a curly coat. Within approx. 4 weeks of their birth, a curly coat doodle will begin to get multiple curls within their coat from the tip of their nose to the base of their tail.
Regardless of whom their parents are, all curly coat Goldendoodles pick up more Poodle within their gene structure and this is why their coat is curly vs. smooth or shaggy. A curly coat Goldendoodle can come from a mixture of Golden Retriever and Poodle or they can come from a mixture of Goldendoodle and Poodle. They do not have to always come from a Poodle/Goldendoodle mix to have a curly coat.

While the curly coat Goldendoodle comes in all shades of colors and can have markings anywhere on their single coat, the curly coat Goldendoodle has something in common with the shaggy coat Goldendoodle. Both the shaggy coat doodle and the curly coat doodle has a facial beard. The shaggy coat doodle's facial beard sprouts outward in all directions, but parts in the middle on the top of their muzzle. The curly coat has a facial beard, but it is not as pronounced due to all the curls. Some other shared similarities are:
1. Low shedding
2. Single coat
3. All lighten at least one shade as an adult.
4. All have almond shaped eyes.
The curly coat Goldendoodle does NOT shed any less or more than the smooth coat doodle or the shaggy coat doodle although you will more than likely find plenty of breeders who will make such a statement either to you verbally or upon their website. If and when any breeder makes the claim that a curly Goldendoodle that is either a first generation, or multiple generation or even an F1B (backbred dog) will shed less, I ask that you in turn ask them to produce evidence of their claim from a genetic laboratory. I guarantee that they will NOT be able to provide such evidence. I personally contacted multiple canine laboratories in 2006 and requested to have some of my Goldendoodles' hairs tested. I personally wanted to know whether a lab or test could verify whether the Goldendoodle hairs were "hypo-allergenic" or "shed free". I was promptly told by all labs I had contacted, there was NO SUCH TEST nor could any lab provide this information or type of testing to me.

The photos upon this page are photos of various curly coat Goldendoodles we've produced over the years. They are NOT photos of the same doodle. Many people who boldly write negative comments inside of dog forums or Goldendoodle forums claiming that the Goldendoodle is nothing more than a "high priced designer fad" that breeders are raking in the bucks with should have their heads examined. We've never made a profit from creating our Goldendoodles in all the years we've created them. Our expenses far exceed any amount of money we may take in from a sale. The Goldendoodle dog is here to stay, forever. It will never fade away like some breeds did back in the early 1900s. A Goldendoodle does NOT have to be an F1B (backbred dog) or a multiple generation doodle in order to have a curly coat or to be low in shedding. The concept is quite simple actually. All curly coat Goldendoodles are the result of a dog that has picked up more of its genetics from its Poodle parent or Poodle ancestor. Goldendoodles do not turn out to be what they are based solely upon the genetics of their parents. Rather, a Goldendoodle will pick up their genetics from their entire lineage.

We see many of our Goldendoodles favor each other quite often.
If we have shaggy coat Goldendoodles, many of them look very similar. Our smooth coat Goldendoodles all share the same fluffy but smooth coat and all are void of a facial beard.
While our smooth coat doodles have a very similar appearance as a purebred Golden Retriever, the advantage of our smooth coat doodles is that because of our breeding method, they are still very low shedding dogs. Some breeders assume that if two curly Goldendoodles are bred together, the entire litter will be curly coated too. Again, we busted the claim and found the claim to be untrue. In 2007 we bred two curly coat Goldendoodles together that were unrelated and we did not get a single curly coat doodle in the litter. We mainly bred the two unrelated Goldendoodles together so that we could increase our chances for blue eyed Goldendoodles. You will not find any other Goldendoodle breeders with blue eyed Goldendoodles. This is something we are known for exclusively. At the time we bred the two curly Goldendoodles together, we had no idea what to expect with regards to their offsprings' coat type.
Out of four produced puppies, three were smooth coats and one was a shaggy coat. Both parents had blue eyes but we obtained 1 brown eyed pup; 2 blue eyed pups and 1 green eyed pup.
In theory, we should have been able to obtain a curly coat from two curly coat parents, but this was not the case for us at that time. Perhaps one day we'll try again and see if any curly coat doodles come about. We've had a few curly coat Goldendoodles born to us over the years but the majority of our doodles are shaggy and only recently we have seen a handful of low shedding smooth coats brought about by changing our breeding method. The smooth coat is not sold that often, but they should be.

To the left is one of our past doodles name Penny. She is a dark apricot curly coat doodle from our Goldendoodle World.
Above is Remy. He lives in Alaska and is a dark apricot curly coat doodle from our Goldendoodle World.
As I said, every Goldendoodle will lighten at least one shade from the time they are a puppy until the time they turn into an adult. They are completely the opposite of the purebred Golden Retriever. Most Golden Retrievers (other than white) will darken as they mature. Goldendoodles will lighten.
When shaved down, many Goldendoodles with a curly coat have a slender build and usually sport nice long legs. A Poodle trait indeed. Most Goldendoodles are more hair than body. Because we do own a few curly coat Goldendoodle adult dogs ourselves, it is our personal experience that when we allow their coat to remain full, they could pass for a purebred Poodle with a long tail!
Whether in Alaska or Michigan, any where there is snow, you'll find one of our Goldendoodles completely enjoying it!
One trait all of our Goldendoodles possess, regardless of coat type, is the love of snow and water!
Above and to the right is Remy. He is a dark apricot curly coat doodle from our Goldendoodle World.
Above are two of our past curly coat Goldendoodles sharing some quiet time with each other.
Star Dust ( left ) is one of our personal blue eyed, curly coat Goldendoodles who is a LIGHT apricot in color. He has a very soft coat and Poodle appearance. When we shave him down, many people confuse him with a purebred Poodle who has a long tail and blue eyes. He also has a slender body build.
To the left and above is Tucker. He's a curly coat, dark apricot Goldendoodle from our Goldendoodle World. Tucker was much darker as a young doodle puppy. To the left, you can see that his coat has lightened a shade. His facial beard is visible and quite curly.

A curly coat Goldendoodle requires alot of coat maintanence and so does the shaggy coat doodle. The smooth coat Goldendoodle is the easiest coat to take care out of all three coat types. The curly coat Goldendoodle can, however, have fewer coat issues if they are trimmed short. To the left, you will see Tucker with his coat trimmed short and his coat upon his ears left long. This gives him more of a Poodle appearance, but leaving him still quite beautiful. A curly coat Goldendoodle will become quite matted if the coat is left long and unbrushed. This is a Poodle trait. I personally do not enjoy this aspect of the Goldendoodle dog that is either curly or shaggy. I myself am quite a Golden Retriever fan solely because they are very friendly, outgoing dogs and yet, their coat is very easy to take care of. I do not enjoy the shedding aspect of the Golden Retriever...so, each dog brings with them something on the table to discuss among dog lovers. I am, however, impressed with my own Goldendoodles. Regardless of their coat type, I am very fond of their personalities and the fact they are such loving dogs. That is not to say that all is roses owning a dog of any kind. All breeds annoy me on a bad day but on a good day, I love them all. Dogs will be dogs no matter how much we want to humanize them and the don't always act with reason.

Tucker, above and to the right, is a very majestic, beautiful Goldendoodle as is all of the doodles presented upon this page.
We hope that the photos upon this page will show you just how much our Goldendoodles favor each other when they share the same coat type. We have been able to achieve great success with consistancy in the appearance of our Goldendoodles mainly because we pay attention to great detail when pairing up our breeding dogs. We do not just toss two dogs in the ring for mating. We actually have a goal in mind when we are matching up breeding companions.
Pierre is one of our main Poodle sires since our other two males, Darby and Scisco's Kid were neutered. Both were retired from our breeding program because of their age. Pierre is still a nice young Poodle.
Gypsy Blue lives in Miami . Florida and is a silver curly coat doodle with one blue eye and one brown eye. Gypsy is one of our past Goldendoodles and is very much loved by her family.
All of our beautiful curly coat doodles love to be pampered.

If you look at all of the photos we placed upon this page of our various curly coat Goldendoodles, notice the difference from their coat to the coat type of the shaggy Goldendoodle. All shaggy coat Goldendoodles have some curls in their coat. But what sets them apart from the curly coat is the fact their facial beard and their body coat is mainly shaggy. Each strand of hair wisps in all directions. Their tail is also a nice plume tail. The curly coat sometimes has a plume tail but many have so many curls from head to toe that its hard to tell. The curly coat Goldendoodle's facial beard is very curly and the shaggy coat Goldendoodle (see above) has a facial beard that parts in the middle from the top of the nose. Their beard gives them a square shape appearance in the face. All Goldendoodles have almond shaped eyes and a face that always appears to be smiling. Our shaggy and smooth coat doodles are just as low shedding as our curly coat doodles.

Above left is Luke with his owner Rimma. To the above right is one of our past curly coat Goldendoodles as a very young puppy. You can see the curls about the face but the body coat has yet to catch up. To the left is again, Luke. You can see his coat has lightened one shage and he is very curly! It is amazing to me how much he looks like Tucker...who is shown in photos higher up on this page.
Although as an adult, a curly coat Goldendoodle will appear to have a thick coat, the doodle has only a single coat and when shaved down, the dog is much smaller than they appear to be with a full coat.
To the left and above is "Brandy Soloman". She was born to our Goldendoodle World in 2005. Brandy is also a dark apricot Goldendoodle that is a curly coat. Isn't it amazing how much our curly coat Goldendoodles favor each other even though they were born in different years and have different parents?
We see the same thing occur with our shaggy coat Goldendoodles. They may come from different parents and may be various sizes or colors....but each coat type shares common characteristics and many similarities. Its a Goldendoodle fact we are here to share with you.
